Dr. Wieland Holfelder

Dr. Wieland Holfelder joined Google Germany GmbH in 2008 as head of Google's development center in Munich, where Google now employs more than 1,200 people, many of whom work on data security and privacy for Google services and the Google Chrome browser, as well as the many other Google products and services to come. Dr. Holfelder is also a Senior Technical Advisor on Digital Sovereignty and a member of the global Google Sustainability Board. Prior to Google, Dr. Holfelder worked for over 10 years in Silicon Valley, including Mercedes-Benz Research and Technology North America, Inc. most recently as Vice President and Chief Technology Officer. Prior to that, he worked for ICAST Corporation and, two Silicon Valley Internet startup companies in the streaming video space. After graduating from the University of Mannheim, Germany, with a degree in Information Systems, Dr. Holfelder worked on his doctoral thesis in computer science, first at the IBM European Networking Center in Heidelberg, Germany, and then at the International Computer Science Institute in Berkeley, CA. Dr. Holfelder has been honored as a "GI Fellow" by the German Informatics Society.
