Britta Ernst

President of the Standing Conference of the Ministers of Education and Cultural Affairs of the Länder in the Federal Republic of Germany (KMK)

After graduating from high school, Britta Ernst (*23.02.1961) trained as a businesswoman in real estate and housing management and studied economics and social economics. After her studies, she worked as a personal assistant to Hamburg's senator for urban development and as a scientific employee at the Hamburg Urban Development Authority. From 1997 to 2011 she was a member of the Hamburg Parliament and from 1998 to 2006 she was spokesperson for equal opportunities and school policy as well as deputy parliamentary group leader. From 2006, she was parliamentary director of her parliamentary group. In 2011, she moved to the SPD parliamentary group in the Bundestag. Here she headed the federal-state coordination office and took over as managing director in 2012. In 2014, she was appointed Minister for Schools and Vocational Education in the state of Schleswig-Holstein. Since 2017, she has been Minister for Education, Youth and Sports of the state of Brandenburg. Britta Ernst has been a member of the SPD since 1978.
