Carl-Otto Gensch

Head of Division Sustainable Products & Material Flows, Öko-Institut

Carl-Otto Gensch (Dipl.-Ing.) is head of the Öko-Institut's Products & Material Flows department. Since he began working at the Öko-Institut in 1988, Mr. Gensch has played a key role in the development, standardization and implementation of various methods such as material flow analyses and scenarios, life cycle assessments and eco-efficiency analyses or risk assessments. These methods can be used to identify potential for action and develop recommended courses of action. In the BMBF-funded research project "Trafo 3.0 - Design model for socio-ecological transformation processes in practice: development and testing in three fields of application", Mr. Gensch has dealt in detail with digitalization in the field of publishing. In numerous projects on behalf of DG Environment, Mr. Gensch also evaluates the substitution of pollutants in electrical and electronic equipment, including many ICT products. Mr. Gensch is also an advisory board member of the "nachhaltig.digital" competence platform. This platform for sustainability and digitization in SMEs supports companies in using digitization as a tool for sustainable business.
